Whistleblower protections review

The Senate has referred an inquiry into whistleblower protections in the corporate, public and not-for-profit sectors to the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Corporations and Financial Services for report by 30 June 2017.

The inquiry will examine the development and implementation in the corporate, public and not-for-profit sectors of whistleblower protections, taking into account the substance and detail of that contained in the Registered Organisation Commission (ROC) legislation passed by the Parliament in November 2016.

The Committee will report on its findings by the end of June 2017.

As part of its negotiations over the passage of the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Amendment Bill 2014 the Government agreed to support the inquiry with a view to the Government introducing legislation into Parliament by December 2017 and Parliament voting on the legislation by no later than 30 June 2018.
