Website disclosures for financial services and credit

While website designers try to keep pages uncluttered, credit and financial services providers need to ensure that website design changes do not remove or hide essential regulatory disclosures.

Even though home page space is limited, footer links should include privacy, complaints and the financial services guide (if applicable). Do you display your ABN, AFSL and Australian Credit Licence numbers?

Additional links can be provided on relevant product pages: credit pages need to disclose fact sheets and comparison rates, savings product pages need to disclose product disclosure statements and advice warnings.

If you run competitions disclose the permit numbers and conditions.

If you are APRA-regulated or a listed company then in addition to the other applicable laws your website needs to satisfy corporate governance standards.

If you are fundraising on-line then you need to comply with ASIC’s policies and the Corporations Act.

The Australian Guidelines for Electronic Commerce are a useful general resource.

If you are updating your website, include a compliance review.
