The Privacy Amendment (Privacy Alerts) Bill 2013 was not passed by the Senate before it rose on 28 June 2013. If the Senate does not sit again and pass the Bill before an election is called the Bill will lapse.
In that event, regardless of who wins the election the mandatory data notification procedures are unlikely to commence on 12 March 2014.
