National Gambling Reforms to be unwound

The House of Representatives has passed the Social Services and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2013. The Bill has been sent to the Senate for passage.

If passed the Bill will repeal the $250 a day ATM withdrawal limit that was to apply for gaming venues (other than casinos) from 1 February 2014.

The Bill will also repeal the position and functions of the National Gambling Regulator, along with those provisions relating to the supervisory and gaming machine regulation levies, dynamic warning provisions, the trial on mandatory pre-commitment, and matters for Productivity Commission review.

The Bill will also amend the pre-commitment and gaming machine capability provisions.
