ASIC debt collection guide updated

ASIC has published an updated version of Regulatory Guide 96 Debt collection guideline: for collectors and creditors which explains the application of the Commonwealth consumer protection laws which
are relevant to debt collection as well as privacy and state fair trading laws.

The guideline has been jointly produced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and ASIC.

The guideline applies to both creditors who are directly involved in debt collection and to specialist external agencies who provide debt collection services.
