Regulatory Reform Omnibus Bill introduced

The Government has introduced the Regulatory Reform Omnibus Bill 2025 into the House of Representatives.

If passed it will amend 28 Acts and repeal another 2, affecting 13 government agencies.

The objectives of the Bill include:

  • Amendments to support a ‘tell us once’ approach to government service delivery;
  • Amendments to improve or maintain access to government services;
  • Amendments to reduce regulatory burden;
  • Amendments to increase government efficiency and improve productivity.

The practical effects mean Australians won’t have to put in their details every time they access a different government service they need. For example, once the Bill is passed, when Australians update their Centrelink bank details, Medicare receives them too.

The regulatory burden on Australians and on industry will be reduced by allowing secure, suitable digital options instead of hard copy documents.

NBN’s mapping data will be available for public use by other businesses and industry.

These changes will commence no earlier than the day after the Bill receives the Royal Assent, but some changes may not commence until 2027.
